Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 32reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by worth the price "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten." This quote sums up this saw perfectlyTo trim tree branches around our farm, our family has always used Stihl chainsaws while standing in a tractor bucket. After reading the reviews for the 131 pole saw and talking to our local dealer, we decided to give one a try. This has been an excellent decision. I can trim a large tree in a 1/4 of the time as using a tractor and chainsaw. The saw makes quick work of limbs of any size. I have cut limbs up to 18" in diameter. I have learned that on large limbs that are 10" diameter or more that if you make a small cut on the bottom of the limb that it does not pinch or bind as bad. The only down side to the 131 is the weight of the saw. It tends to become cumbersome after 2-3 trees. I also found that if you go to smaller dealers you tend to get better pricing on Stihl. Rated 5 out of 5 by HT-131 This thing is an animal. I have used it extensively on pine trees and palm fronds. When telescoped out, the weight can wear on your arms especially if working from a lift cage. I recommend not being a wimp and complaining though, you're a man doing man's work. The only issue I have had is one of these machines has an issue where the head dislodges inside and has to be fixed often but I have not seen it reoccur with other and I feel confident that it is not an issue typical of the units. The telescoping feature is simple and quick to use. The unit is efficient with fuel; I will run it for 6-7 hours on 2.5 tanks of fuel. It cuts like a beast, especially without the safety chain. Some people do not like the oil caps but it is better than a screw cap; screw caps can be over tightened and difficult to remove, The Stihl snap caps seal and cannot be over tightened. If having difficulty figuring it out just place the cap on the oil inlet, slightly back it in until you fell it drop then turn clockwise a half rotation and flip the lever down. If that doesn't work then go get a hand saw and a Capri sun and ask your mom to cut the crust off of you PB&J sandwich. What I like the most is the ease of which it starts and how easy it can be to fix a thrown chain. The nature of the unit will inevitably result in incidental contact with the top of the tip of the bar and a thrown chain. The chain tensioner is durable and easily adjustable with just the slightest loosening of the bar nut. That's it January 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great saw Loads of power Love this saw Great power easy starting Did I say Love this saw. It is a little heavy but your buying a professional saw. January 3, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by This saw increased my revenue. Outstanding saw. I am a professional landscaper. This saw, while it may be a little heavy (use a harness), is reliable and durable. Well built and stands up to the abuse of daily use and the wet/cold weather of the Pacific Northwest.I can trim my clients trees to a suitable height with perfect precision without the use of a ladder or having to scale the tree. The telescoping shaft is heavy duty and easy to extend and retract, and does not bend or vibrate when fully extended. I also feel in control of the saw when fully extended, which is extremely important. The HT-131 may be the most expensive pole pruner in the Stihl inventory, however, you get what you pay for with this excellent tool. I loved it so much I bought 2. I get "thumbs up" from homeowners and professionals every time I'm seen using this great saw. October 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great saw I'm a homeowner with a large yard and many trees. I also own some farm/hunting land, much of which is forested. I got this pole saw about a month ago, after doing much research. The build quality of this saw is better than the competition and the power is superior. It starts very easily and is easy to handle, although working it at full extension will give you a workout. It seems a little overpriced, but if it lasts as long as other Stihl chainsaws I've owned, then it'll be worth it. I really like the saw--it's just what I needed. September 23, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Oil filler cap difficult to use Had the saw for a few years (5-6) but not many hours on it. Too heavy to use for long periods. The oil filler cap is very difficult to use. I just got it out, filled with oil and put the cap back on. It fell off on the first cut and oil went everywhere. Now, I can get the cap to lock in place but the tab is up. Really don't like the design of the filler cap. August 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Long pole, short work. I purchased this produce a week ago. My father had one (72 year old) and strongly recommended it. I have to say it is a joy to use. We have 30 acres and while 25 is pasture, that other 5 and around the house needs constant work. Until now I have had many limbs just taunt me, just out of reach for my chainsaw. Well they are now in the "to burn" pile. It works great, easy to start and cuts like a dream! My wife is worried that we wont have anything left standing. /shrug oh well. If you want something that will do what it is designed to do, get a Stihl. August 18, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Too heavy Purchased this saw last year, used several times, but totally too heavy to cut over a couple of limbs at 12'. June 24, 2014
